Dear Editor: Truth and common sense should be given as much publicity as the nonsense that is being circulated by some persons involved in the pre- sent West Vancouver elec- tion. Many non-issues have been politicized that directly affect each Council member of West Vancouver. | want to comment on two. I have heard Mr. Reid publicly refer to Council as ‘‘a rubber stamp’’ for the Mayor. These same words then appeared in a recent let- ter [0 your newspaper by one of ms yellow T-shirt cam- paign workers. Anyone who believes this, either has no comprehension of how good Municipal government operates or has been unfor- tunately brain-washed through partisan politics. ft is a slur on the integrity of each Present and past member of Don’t on the Dear Editor: It is my understanding that the West Vancouver Electors Association (WVEA) will cir- culate to all West Vancouver voters a pamphlet tndicating their endorsement of three candidates for office, despite the objection of some well meaning WVEA directors to veto the endorsation of can didates — only to be shouted down in a somewhat stormy session of Diased candidate supporters Of the some 17S people present only 125 ballow were cast, BO for Mr Rew. oa mayoralty candidate and a tormer North Nancousel Mayor, with 46 blank ballots cast ab protest of endorsa tion baghty people should hot influence the West Nan CoOuUve! Intelligent people, acting on good staff reports, often agree On many matters that come before Council without extensive debate, especially when each member’s interest is solely in doing the best job for West Vancouver rather for any personal, partisan mouve. Doreen Blackburn has been an effective, hard work- ing Council member during the past 2 years and she will be missed by all members, especially myself. 1 hope be- ing called ‘ta rubber stamp"’ has not been one of the reasons causing her not to seek re-election. It appears to me Mr. Reid confuses rhetoric and biased opinion as equalling the facts when studying a problem. | do not Perhaps Mr. on his Reid, based experience in epend WVEA Humphreys who has devoted his full trme to this office for the past six years Do not depend entirely on the WVEA) endorsement Become an informed voter W.S Jackson West Vancouver Raise a Rac with this ee ee ue Healthy Christmas special An eter ae! An example of negative confrontation where there should have been positive co- operation, is the new, long- term management Foreshore Lease that replaces the old, recreational Foreshore Lease. The new lease will generate trom commercial leases, a minimum of $50,000 per year extra revenue for West Van- couver for an addiuonal ex- penditure of not more than $15,000. A good deal in anyone's language When Mr. Reid chaired this group to oppose the new lease no matter what, a general meeting of citizens was called by his group to point out in a most one-sided manner, all the potential pro- blems that could be conjured up with respect to the new lease No Council members were invited to attend. I at tended as a watertront homeowner and Alderman in order to bring the citizens up to date and advise them ot the very positive aspects with respect to the new lease Mr a or he ery ptt are ie wt Reg. *167" Reid and some of his com- mittee did not wish me to speak and it was only with the vote of the public present that I was finally permitted to make a full and = factual report. Later, Mr. Reid’s commiut- tee asked to meet with Coun- cil to discuss the foreshore lease. Council agreed since input from the public is always appreciated by Coun- cil. However, when Mr Reid’s committee found that staff would be in attendance to provide factual input on negotiations with the Provin- cial government, they then refused to meet with Council This to me belies the spirit of supposed co-operation and makes me believe that the name of the game was con- frontation and political oneupmanship throughout David Finlay Alderman West Vancouver Take 5 Take 5 minutes and exercise your nghts Vote on Nov. 17 Gift for Christmas eed oycourgt Phieetaepe 3 ! jie ah Serves wet! 1 ek ae) OY | moc haaee it A Seminar on Effective Writing and Communication Ousiness- like a iting Ine wif Tim POmte (at) ae ince meses jon at ion for people im business Government & ingusiry eerier, fester ano aore eftectice You etl) wore LRG tetQuelly ena in groups LO ecQuire tne “hast art” of writing effective letters ems memos Yow ett fecelve a refresner in gremmar Peni lustioe sad Pirteo logy St ple weRL Le feat power mt ititag tla, ena to white ana ea: | Geller Cres peming® will pemefit yo. as 't Aes G@emyp others Clear tear \me @oya!
