B17 - Sunday, December 4, 1983 - North Shore News Story and photos by ELLSWORTH DICKSON a THREE YEARS ago Charles and Jean Leslie bought a home in West Vancouver, a nice place on a large lot (84 x 138 ft.) in a good neighbor- hood (Hollyburn). They also liked the fact that their pro- perty borders on Hayes Park. The trouble was that the house was not big enough. So 18 months ago Charles and Jean began a major renovation program which involved the redesign of the entire house. Possibly described as a California ran- cher with a basement, the house now has 2,330 sq.ft. on the main floor and 1,130 down. The house is presently on the market. Some of the main features of this home are three bedrooms on the main floor, four fireplaces, a sunken liv- ing and dining room which share an Italian marble fire- place, and a circular driveway. The renovations were so extensive, it is now hard to see the ‘‘old’’ house. The old living room, dining room, and kitchen have now become the new master bedroom and entrance. The new kitchen and family room are in the new part. One nice idea that appeai- ed to me was a small food or drink preparation area bet- ween the kitchen and formal dining room. It separates the cooking from your guests, but is useful for serving guests. The family room, which also has a fireplace, is off the kitchen.
