A court hearing was _ scheduled for Tuesday in a ee Pen oe bee PR RE Be case in which the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seeks to mvatidate the provision of Mary Murphy’s will which called for the dog to be put to sleep. But the governor's office in Sacramento. disclosed before the hearing that Brown signed a special law for Sido Monday night. The legislation was written to apply only to this dog PET CORNER after lawmakers engaged in debate over whether animals have rights. Some legislators said a law giving animals rights would make them look ridiculous. The court hearing on the SPCA effort to break Mrs. Murphy's will was on Tuesday's calendar in Superior Court. Murphy had willed her pet be put to death after she died because she feared the little dog would be lonely. She died shortly before Christmas last year. The SPCA had temporary custody of the dog.
