—_ mailbox 4 ee Utd A7-Wednesday, February 27, 1980 - North Shore News Dear Editor: This is to let you know that Mr. Ray Sutton -- who says he is a male chauvinist and “enjoys” the “Sunshine Girls” -- emphatically does nat as he claims, “speak for the 50% of the readership who is (sic) male.” Is it because he is a “healthy Canadian male” that Mr. Sutton evidently cannot tell the difference between a newsprint photo and the real thing? Let me explain it for his benefit: the real thing is a living human person with her own reality, hopes and destiny. The women photographed have probably never met Mr. Sutton (lucky for them!) Isn't this precisely what allows him to hypnotize himself week after week on their A response to Dear Editor: Without entering into the Beak report controversy which is presently raging between Baker - Crist - Mayor Bell and the District Council, there are several points in Baker's open letter to Crist that I would like to comment upon. 1. Mrs. Baker is urging Mr. Crist “to get on with the job you were elected for in a reasoned, rational and responsible manner.” I find her words intriguing and very aptly fit the appalling behaviour of Alderman Ball & Rose when they walked out of a council meeting. Presumably Mrs. Baker intends to send another open letter to this paper, chastising these two aldermen for their unreasoned, irrational and irresponsible behaviour. 2. Mrs. Baker goes back in history by mentioning the Bridgman Park/ Winter Club shenanigans & states that some Citizen’s opposed the land exchange of Park to & from the Winter Club. My memory must be longer than Mrs. Baker's. The op- position originally was against SELLING a piece of Parkland to the Winter Club. Meat for the grinder lt is surpnmsing to see that you are still duped by the supposed goodies promised to you for selling your body. Perhaps you think that you are not changing anything, or hurting anyone, by continuing to treat = your body as an object which can get you a few fast bucks if displayed to immature males. ] hope that you'll be prepared when you are “dumped for a younger chick” by your husband or lover as your cute smile and nice bust start to fade. ST Riierex SPE As for some of us, (both men and women) who have been struggling to undo years of conditioning, we feel angered and frustrated that the dollar 1s still more important to many women than their own self-respect. 1, for one, am very tired of the “healthy Canadian male's” (quote Ray Sutton, Feb. 20/80, Mailbox, North Shore News) way of seeing me as a piece of meat for his grinder. ’ Katharine Ronan North Vancouver SWIMMING & FITNESS CENTRE Shape Up Special! But yes - we also opposed the subsequent land exchange. 3. Mrs. Baker states that the citizens were unaware of the SeyLyn Fire Hall issue until the first trees were cut. Come now Marilyn - it's all in the Council minutes - it had to be passed by Council first. In any case, some of us were very much aware but unfortunately Council was quicker off the mark than As beautiful as Miss Piggy gallery or were moved to tears by music? As for those Sunshine Girls, I personally find their cule little “photogenic” squirmings about as natural as Dream Whip and = as beautiful as Miss Piggy. Dan Bruiger North Vancouver Mrs. Baker usual & had ordered the trees to be cut before an organization got under way. And Mr. Crist along with Mrs. Segal did indeed state and vote that they favoured a public meeting in this regard. And 1 fail to see why Mrs. Baker feels the Save the Parks Committee should approach Mr. Crist with a petition. The correct procedure is to approach the Mayor and Council with petitions — and this was done. Lettie Whiting North Vancouver A sunshine boy? Dear Editor: As females, we see the point of the men who enjoy the weekly sunshine girl in your paper, and see no reason why this should be discontinued. However, why not give us girls the same privilege and include a weekly “sunshine - guy”? After all, this is a liberated world, is it not? Karin Schild Penny Treen North Vancouver All are not alike.
