Experts appointed to First Narrows’ panel

construction, cost, longevity of use,
value for money and the impact of
construction on traffic, both marine
and vehicular,

The findings of the review pan-
els will be delivered to the ministry,
the 20-member community focus
group and the agency liaison com-
mittce which represents stakeholder

municipalities and other affected ©

agencies such as the Port
Corporation and GYRD,

The final decision on the
replacement crossing will depend
on at variety of factors which are to
be presented and discussed in a full
public process. The ministry will
present all preliminary information
including the opinions expressed by
the community focus group at open

houses and information sessions
over the next couple of months.
These will be followed by a series

of issue forums which will allow -

the public to make presentations to
the review committees and the min-
ister.

Consideration of the findings of
the public meetings, technical
review panels, assessments of the
environmental and social impacts,
cost, popular preference and vari-
ous transportation objectives, will
lead to the selection of a short list
of options from the 12 proposed.
These short- listed options will then
be subjected to an exhaustive
review of their technical, socio-cco-
nomic and environmental merits
and faults before the final choice is
made. ,
