Friends update THE GROUP fighting to maintain control of Presentation House arts centre may have won in the final ballots during elections at Presentation Cultural Society's annual general meeting Saturday, Sept. 25 but the Friends of Presentation House say their long-standing struggle to save the communi- ty theatre wasn’t all for naught. “| was disappointed,” said former board member Maggie Mason, “We'd been politically naive. They (the current adminstration) really stacked the meeting against us. How- ever, if we hadn’t gone the route we'd gone the theatre would be dead by now.” The Friends of Presentation House had hoped their slate of theatre people would be elected to the Presentation House board, but only one member, Deep Cove playwright Maureen Robinson, was voted in. Other theatre representatives elected to the board were: North Vancouver Community Players president David Mcin- tosh and Tamahnous Theatre’s Val Mason. Said Maggie Mason: “They're really good people. And it's a completely new board so they don’t have a history.’ Having watched the theatre deteriorate over the last few years, the Friends were fighting to make the board more ac- countable to the North Shore community. For now, howev- er, it says it will sit back and take a watchdog position. The Miracie Worker AT THE age of 1% Helen Keller was left blind. and deaf and unable to commu- nicate with the world.
