Gas prices
continue
to decline

AVERAGE GASOLINE
prices continued to decline
during the first quarter of
1993, dropping almost a full
cent since January, accord-
ing to a survey released
recently by the Canadian
Automobile Association
(CAA).

The 3.5-million-member  not-
for-profit CAA monitors gasoline
prices throughout Canada on a
monthly basis and releases a
quarterly report with figures pro-
vided by Runzhelmer Canada Inc.
of Toronto, an international
management consultant firm
specializing in’ transportation,
travel and living costs.

The CAA survey reveals that
the Canadian average price for a
litre of regular unleaded gasoline
at self-service stations fell from
54.9 cents a litre’ in January to
_ 54.0 cents in March.

The highest gas prices in the
country were found in Prince Ed-
ward Island, at 59.1 cents per
litre, and Quebec, at 58.8 cents
per litre.

The lowest gasoline prices in
Canada were found in Alberta at
47.6 cents, and Nova Scotia at
50.0 cents.

CAA attributes the average
decrease in gas prices to stable
world oil prices and the ongoing
competitiveness among retailers
struggling to maintain market
share during these difficult eco-
nomic times.
