North Shore high schools hosting 16-team tourney TAKING A page from the highly successful North Shore Firefighters girls’ basketball tour- nament slated for the first schoal weekend in January each year, the North Shore will host a 16-team boys’ basketball tournament this weekend to kick off the 1991-92 season. The North Shore {nvitation opens tomorrow at Argyle, Car- son Graham, Sutherland and Windsor with double-headers at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., followed by a tournament banquet at Car- son Graham at 7:30 p.m. Games continue at the same four locations Friday at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at Argyle and Sutherland at 9 a.m, 10:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. Argyle hosts the game for third place at 6 p.m. and the final at 8 p.m. Besides the four host schoals, Handsworth is also entered in the tournament along with Van- couver’s Britannia, Prince of Wales, Magee, and John Oliver, St. Michael’s of Victoria, Mat- thew McNair from Richmond, Columneetza from Williams Lake, Centennial of Coquitlam, St. Thomas More from Burnaby, Alberni District and Salmon Arm. Local runners shine at fall clinic ISABELLE DITTBERNER of North Vancouver was the second woman to cross the finish line of the Runners World Fall Classic 10-kilometre road race held on Sunday. Liz Jones of Vancouver was the top woman with a time of 34 minutes, 37 seconds. Dittberner’s -time of 35:36 put her in first place in the women’s 30-39 age group. In the same age division, Diane Winram of North Vancouver was fifth with a time of 40:56. In the women’s under-20 age group, Denali Enns of North Vancouver finished third with a time of 44:47, tn the women's 40-49 age divi- sion, frene Gane of North Van- couver came second with a time of 43:02 whiie Sally Spires, also from North Vancouver, came fifth in the same division at 46:15. The five-kilometre Runners World Fall classic saw North Vancouver’s Kim Littler finish fourth overall at 21:39. She was third in the 20-29 age division.
