November 21, 1999 ——= TRAVEL: specialization a Museum memory beoks cathartic key for Pavlik ‘AS Janet Pavlik celebrates 40 years in the travel business this month she says it’s time for change. tis full cirde for the Deep Cove business woman who formed Pavlik Specialized Tours in 1976 and knew then that without specialization travel agencies would find it difficult to survive in the coming years. _ Originally organizing student educational tours, Pavlik found herself moving toward even more specialization as she became known for her handling of performing music groups. Bands, choirs and orchestras welcomed the experienge she had gained int Britain with a concert artist ageney. While operating a full-service travel agency in the Cove her husband, John Pavlik, continued working with Canadian Airlines, He took early retirement in 1986 to oversee a special EXPO 86 program for incoming visitors from around the world. john now works full time for the company. Daughter Misha Wilson heads up the Boating in Europe Program offering holidays on the rivers and canals of Europe. This program is wholesaled across Canada through travel agents. The success has been a mix of business, says Janet: at times when the agency sales were down then group and whole- sale division held it together and vice versa. Bur as we step into the New Millennium the public wiil be finding that travel agents who relied on airline commissions for their livelihcod will be unable to continue to offer profession- al services without service fees.
