The generator instantiy filis
the air bag with harmless
nitrogen gas, and the bag
deflates as air escapes
through vents in the bag.
Seatbelts alone do not of-
fer as much protection as a
combination of seatbelts and
air bag. Front passengers
wearing seatbelis only may
strike the steering wheel or
windshield with their head
and upper body, and the
lower dash with their legs.
This is often due to im-
proper positioning of the
seatbelt. A lap belt should fit
across the lower abdomen
over the hip bones, not
