Girls’ soccer team off to Ottawa B.C. CHAMPION North Shore Metros girls’ soccer team will rep- resent the province at the Cana- dian under-16 championships in Ottawa this fall, but are now working to raise funds for the trip. This is only the second time a North Shore girls’ team has com- peted in the national champion- ships in any age division, and the first time in this division. In 1983, the West Vancouver Amazons were third in the Cana- dian under-18 tournament. Upcoming major fund- -raising activities for the Ottawa trip in- clude a giant garage sale Saturday, Sept. 10, at 790 Handsworth Rd. and the North Shore Metros com- munity sponsorship program. The sponsorship program is geared for businesses and in- dividuals who wish to contribute to the team’s travel and accommoda- tion expenses for the national event Oct. 6 to 10. Those donating $50 or more will receive a nine-inch by 12-inch lam- inated photo plaque featuring a team picture taken during trophy presentations at the Safeway Premier Cup finals at Swangard Stadium. Team members are Suzy Blown, Kris Brown, Tiffany Chester, Christine Corben, Catherine Donovan, Lisa Eastman, Nancy Ferguson, Jennifer Gardiner, Patty Hansen, Kathy Houlden, Michelle Leber, Elizabeth Palmer, Catherine Pickup, Sophie Spilborghs, Kim Wallace and Julie Westerman. For information on any of the fund raising, call team managers Len Corben at 986-7337, Pam Hansen at 929-6001, or head coach John Mudge at 985-5545. | onal oe Mae Forests: Our Growing Concern _ SPORTS Sailboarders compete SAILBOARD FANATICS from California, Hawaii, On- tario, France, Switzerland and B.C. converged on Squamish recently for the Squamish Can Am Sailboard Champion- ships.
