NORTH VANCOUVER District Council is taking a
different approach to decide whether it should get a
pay caise.

Council has appointed a task force headed by
former West Vancouver mayor Peter Jones to exam-
ine council indemnities and report back with recom-
mendations by next March,

The terms of reference for the task force include
looking at the histery of council pay raises; a com-
parison with rates in other municipatities; considera-
tion of the workload of council members; and rec-
ommendation of a formula that could be used in

merce and labor representative as well as a member
from each of the active ratepayers or community
associations.

At present, the mayor of North Vancouver District
makes about $34,000 annually and aldermen carn
about $9,900 annually.

On Dec. 21, North Vancouver City Council voted
5-2 in favor of giving the city's mayor and alJermen a
6.4 per cent salary increase.

The city’s mayor will now be paid $34,170, while

city aldermen will be paid $10,250 annually.
