DINOSAURS thrived for 150 million years along the
Jush, semi-tropical shores of Bearpaw Sea, which
covered the mid-continent and a large portion of what
isnow Alberta before the ice age.

A four-day field trip to the Alberta Badlands to
recapture the exotic, prehistoric nast is being spon-
sered by the University of British Columbia Centre
for Continuing Education, Oct. 3 to 6.

The tour will centre in the Valley of the
Dinosaurs—the country around the Red Deer River

# Vaicy—shaped by post-glacial runoffs that sheared

away younger topography to reveal rock strata 70
million years old. Also revealed were dinosaur bones,
and other evidence of the land and sea creatures and
plant life that once existed there.

A visit to the new Tyrell Museum of Palacontology,
just outside Drumbeller on North Dinosaur Trail, is a
hightight of the tour.

trip from the dawn of time to the ice age by recreating
the environments in which prehistoric creatures lived.

It has the largest display of dinosaur specimens
(200) in the world.

There will also be visits to the spectacular
rockseapes, fossil finds and dinosaur exhibits in
Dinosaur Provinetal Park, named by UNESCO as a
World Heritage Site, to the Glenbow Museum in
Calgary, and to the recently completed Prehistoric
Park at the Calgary Zoo. Some short side trips are
also scheduled.

The accompanying speciatist is Dr. Michael Wilson,
palacontologist, Geography Department, Universiny
of Lethbridge.

The cost of the tour (subject to change in airfare) is
$665 (UBC Museum of Anthropology members $645)
and includes Vancouver/Calgary return airfare, dou-
ble occupancy accommodation, some meats, and
transportation during the tour.
