Crossicy’s first exposure
to first aid was in high
school. Eighteen months ago
he took part in a St. John's
Ambulance course held after

hours at B.C. Tel, whee he
is an installer/repairman,
then joined one of two B.C,
Tel first aid teams on the
North Shore.

As part of the telephone
company’s safety program,
volunteer first aid teams
practise in the evening once
or twice a week and hold

several safety competitions
each year.

In the competitions, held
on weekend, simulated acci-
dents are used to create real-
istic first aid situations.

‘All the first aiders really
put out,” says Crossley. He
adds, ‘‘First aid is such a

vital skill.”

“I'd recommend it to
anyone — get the knowledge
and get involved. A basic
first aid course is low cost
and doesn’t take a lot of
time. With knowledge of
first aid, taking that precious
moment to get involved can
save a life,’’ Crossley says.
