has started the New
Year with promotions
for three long-time
members of the force.

Gerry McDowell, who
celebrates his 30th anniver-
sary with the fire department
in August, has been pro-
moted from assistant chief
to deputy chief.

Art Ridley, who joined the
department in July of 1958,
has been promoted from the
rank of district chief in
charge of fire prevention to
assistant chief in charge of
fire prevention,

Grant Bott, who celebrat-
ed his 20th year with the
department last June, has
been promoted from district
chief training officer to
assistant chief training of-
ficer.

All three promotions went
into effect on January 1.

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP’s drug squad
has made its fourth major bust in the last three
weeks, laying four charges against two North
Vancouver residents and seizing 45 marijuana

been broken into helped
police make an arrest.

Police arrived at the scene
minutes after the woman
turned in her report and
were able to arrest a 30-
year-old Vancouver man and
recover a stereo cassette re-
corder that had been stolen
from the house.

Charges are pending.
