The wisdom that comes with maturity has given many of us the desire for some- thing slightly more formal —— like a fully-equipped recreational vehi- cle. Make sure your home away from home is protected by the appropriate insurance coverages. Many property insurance com- panies provide separate coverage for recreational vehicles. This usually provides all risk protection for the vehicle itself and some coverage for articles permanently located in the recreational vehicle. The basic homeowner's policy does cover items that are not permanently located in the recre- ational vehicle since they are con- sidered to be temporarily removed from the premises. However, it would not cover anything inter- preted as being permanently 870° WHITE LETTERING 175 70 R13 located in the recreational vehicle. For example, personal effects like clothes used on a trip but eventually returned to the home would be covered. However, a television bolted inside the recre- ational vehicle, perhaps to discourage theft, may be perceived as a permanent attachment, especially if there are already sev- eral televisions in the owner's home. Any questions you have on coverage should be discussed with your local independent insurance broker, as well as questions about policy limits. The amount of coverage provided for permanent contents of the recreational vehi- cles is usually calculated on a per- centage of the value of the vehi- cle. This means that the basic coverage purchased for the mobile home must be high enough to adequately cover the value of the contents.
