and we all know that’s ille-
gall” Really now?

Actually, the almighty Act
addresses this subject specifi-
cally: “The dover of a vehicle
shall not cause or permir the
vehicle to overtake and pass
on the right of anuther vchi-
cle, except (a) when the vehi-
cle overtaken is making a left
turn or its dnver has signalled
his intention to make a [eft
turn.”

That Act goes 67 ro toler
ate passing on the right when
there’s two or more lanes
and/es really wide roads
desigaed for travel in one
direction.

So why do so many peo:
ple consider passing on the
right illegal? Because it often

is — in spite of the above law.

low who shot straight into an
intersection and only then
did he decide he wanted to
turn right.

I had made the decision
te turn right about 20 blocks
beforehand snd there [ was,
tucked neatly and fairly dis-

creetly on Sir Bonchead’s
right side, inadvertently
blocking his view.

He gave me a look, I gave
him a single digir salute. I
don’ mind it when other dri-
vers make mistakes, hey, crap
happens, but when bone-
heads ger irate due tu their
own ineptitude, I don’t teel
like shanng anymore. Road
Hog this, budds.

And another thing: what's
the deal with these bone-
heads who signal right then
swerve way feft and then
make a really wide right turn
and sort of meander into rhe
wrong lane along the wav

eed off like Mario
i? Good grief, bone-
head, chill our.

The right turn signal war
a nice touch but leaning into
the turn by swinging left just
leaves everyone confused as
to your true intention, Road
Hog.

{ should mention another
safe driving practice which
has inadvertently surfaced —
in fact, I should dedicate an
entire column to chis one:
betore making a right turn,
before moving over to the
right part of the road, check
your night blind-spor for
cvelists! Even if you're sure
none are there; cyclists have
becai known to “come out of
nowhere.”

Furthermore, cyclists tend
to get very injured or very
dead when swiped by a tonne
of motor vehicle (although {
have heard that some of
those downtown bicyele
couriers will merely crawl out
from underneath your car
and beat you up).
