Hearing set for NVC waterfre Jolanda Waskite Contributing Writer NORTH Vancouver City council has set the date for a public hearing on a major waterfront development. Greystone Properties Ltd. is offering to contribute three acres to waterfront park in return for rezoning and council approval to build an auto mall, some light industev, a hotel, offices, a neighborhood pub and retail stores on 64 acres formerly known as the Fullerton Fill site. Greystone will also build 4 20-metre-wide public walkway — with lookouts along the McKay slough and Burrard Inlet — and contribute $200,000 towards the devel- opment of a playing field on a” site elsewhere in the city. Councillors still disagree over details of the deal. Coun. Stella Jo Dean says the public amenities proposed just aren’t enough. ; “In my opinion it’s a bad deal,” Dean said. “The city has been like a docile lamb going to slaughter in these negotia- tions.” She said that Grevstone has not contributed dedicated park land. According to the Municipal Act, five per cent of land should be dedicat- ed as park. Although Greysrone’s share is three acres, Dean said it has only con- tributed about one acre of its land. Two acres are already part of the environmental set- back required for sloughs at the site. It will provide jabs and provide public access to the watertront.” Council voted 5-2 for the proposed Harbourside Business Park to proceed to a public hearing.
