Who is getting it, and so on. And in last week’s leadership debate the politicians were ail kow-towing to the multicults. Many words have been spilled on that vote, but few honest ones. No one has shown how our immigration policies are giving the eth- Collins’ ’ Dear Editor: As a resident of North Vancouver, I find it difficult to believe that Doug Collins is in any way representative of the “people in this area. Surely, very few can sub- scribe to views as narrow and ‘unsympathetic as espoused by this hate-monger. It seems much more likely to me that most read him with -& Mixture of amazement and dismay and that he has ulti- mately few “fellow traveiers.” If I'm wrong then it follows that this is a dismal communi- ty indeed. My conclusion, after some thought. is that most regard him with such contempt that a reply such as this is not felt worth the effort. Or perhaps it is the usual laziness — “I'll get. That will nat be news to followers of this column, Last week an outraged reader stued in a letter to the editor that someone has only to cough for me to make it into an immigration story. Not a bad line. Unconsciously right, too, seeing that Third World immigrants ure bringing so much TB into the country, My fascination comes from secing a country desert- ing itself. Election or no election, I would have given the cough lady a rest from: strenuous matters today and written about pretty flowers or my old Aunt Maud. But colum- nist Mark Schwartz, writing in the Wall Street Journal, has summed up our situation very neatly and J thought you should know about it. This country, he said, is an example of what Americans should avoid, Our multicultural poticies are “washing away all ves- tiges of Canada's already iH- defined national character... “Most troubling” is the “athnic accentuation of recent immigrants who have eschewed a Canadian identity in favor of their traditional ethnocultural make up." The ad in The Link shows the process in action. Aided and abetted, of course, by politicians who couldn’‘t care less what happens provided they get a vote; and by a population cowed by the 'R* word. Canada’s “fragile union” is endangered, says Schwartz. “The component of a national identity -— a single language, a common set of values, the adherence to certain creeds and the common celebration of the country's history, are ties that bind the people of a nation. “State-spansored (and readership questioned around to my rebuttal at some point.” which is a litte less charitable, but equally plausi- ble. She, after all, is set against “extremism” and belongs by rights in the Liberal Party. There are quotes from another source thal our polit- ically correct media must have missed.
