By Kevin Gillies Contrituting Writer The structure was built on the western side of the school's field. within feet of property belonging to Sheila and Eberhard Stuible. Although on school property. the structure overlooks the Stuibles* backyard, bedroom, kitchen and dining room. The Stuibles say they were not consulted regarding the location of the playground and petitioned the school board to move it. According to Debbie Smith. ‘executive of the Blueridge Parents Association, the couple originally _complained about teenagers hang- -ing around the playground. Now their concern is the noise “generated by.school children. : Subsequently, North Vancouver “School District 44 (NVSD) will pay approximately $8,400 to move a _ playground 32 feet (9.6 m) accord- ing to parents of Blucridge elemen- ‘tary students. Blueridge. parent Marilyna Hunter, who lives three houses rity from the Stuibles, said: the couple has tumed down offers of a higher fence and a barrier of trees, But the couple said they were advised by a North Vancouver District representalive that there is not enough room between the play- groursl and the Stuibles’ tence fora barrier to be effective, There are approximately three yards (2.8 m) between the edge of the playground structure and the Stuibles’ fenee. Some parents are concertied that forest on school property will have to be cut to accommodate the play- ground’s new location. But when the Stuibles” bought {he house, forest was al] uit exist- ed where the playground now stands, Trees were cut down lo make way for the playground. The Stuibles have letters written by their neighbors to North Vancouver District and the NVSD supporting them, stating that the noise affects their homes as weil. “We no longer enjoy our home,” said the retired clernentary school employee. “It’s not that we don't like kids.” The playground will lose a foot in height if moved away from the couple’s home because it will have to be cut from its concrete founda- tions.
