and gardener. He was a major
force behind the development of
Hillier’s’ Manual of Trees and
Shrubs and was the first curator
of the well-known Hillier Ar-
boretum. :

Lancaster is a regular con-
tributor to the Royal Horticultural
Society Journal The Garden, and
is co-host of the highly successful
British television program
“Garden Club.”

His large garden in Hampshire
serves both as an experimental
area for new plants and as a con-
servation area for plants threat-
ened with extinction in the wild or
in cultivation.

VanDusen is sponsoring this
speaker as part of its new garden
lecture series. American landscape
designer and cookbook author
Rosalind Creasy will lecture Mon-
day, May {1 on the revolution in
the vegetable garden.
