THE 1991 Yellow Pages have hit our doorsteps, leaving North Shore residents and businesses with huge stacks of outdated phone books. Phone books that are thrown in the garbage will end up in the Burnaby incinerator. You can cut down on needless air emissions by making sure your phone book is recycled. The North Shore Recycling Pro- gram will soon be announcing the Jocation of North Shore drop-off depots for phone books, so hang on to them until then. If you don’t want to wait, or don’t think you'll be able to get out to the depot for some reason, you can simply cut the pages out of the book, using scissors or a ruler, include the pages with your newspapers in your recycling Blue Bag, and discard the glued bind- Earth Day Eco re Heroes NEWS photo Mike Wakefl ing. A NORTH Shore business is inter- ested in accepting as much clean polystyrene as residents can pro- vide it with. BBi, focated at 1431 Hunter St. near the Second Narrows Bridge, grinds up the plastic foam and uses it as filler in bean bag chairs. They supply the bean hag market from Vancouver to Winnipeg, and would expand their operations if they could get more foam. The plastic foam must be clean — no food trays are accepied — and can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Fri- day. It takes four garbage bags full of polystyrene to fill one bean bag chair. While environmentalists are cut- ting down on their consumption of polystyrene products, it is still used extensively in various types of packing and packaging. BBI pro- ‘vides a good way to recycle the material. For more information, call 985- 3675. ee REMEMBER THAT there is a good source for recycled paper pro- ducts, such as gifts, wrapping, cards and office paper, right here on the North Shore. Paper-Go-Round is located at #9 Lonsdale Ave. The store also ac- cepts office paper for recycling; call 988-9932 for details. i VECARO JEWELLERS Capilano Mall Location ANNUAL EVERYTHIN /2 APRIL !9-28 Sale includes all merchandise in store except new orders and repairs.
