MET ese sp, : SIR ARAN Ee Ee Spa AT TEENIE SE rat Sed nana ane re NEWS RIEFS Special meeting held to address off-ramp NORTH VANCOUVER City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the controversiat Chesterfield off-ramp from the Upper Levels Highway. Two reports on the off-ramp are currently before council. One is from city engineer Chuck Gayle, entitled Overview of Transportation Reports, in which he recommends that Chester- field Avenue south of the Upper Levels Highway remain closed to eastbound highway traffic until the $22 million Lonsdale highway overpass construction project is complete. After that, says Gayle, Chesterfield should be re-opened to traffic and the traffic volume monitored periodically until the completion of the highway interchange project at Westview Drive. Gayle adds that a final review of the Chesterfield connector should be withheld until traffic patterns ‘re-establish themse!ves”’ after the Westview project is complete. In 2 separate report, city design engineer Tony Barber also recommends that Chesterfield south of the highway remain closed to eastbound traffic. But Ann Rathbone, president of the Lonsdale School Parents’ Association, said the Chesterfield off-ramp should remain closed permanently. She argued that if the Chesterfield off-ramp were opened, the increase in traffic would pose a safety hazard to stu- dents attending Lonsdale Elementary School. N. Van man jailed for trafficking offence A 19-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man was sentenced Aug. 31 in North Vancouver provincial court to three months in jail after he pleaded guilty to trafficking in narcotics. Joel Bremner was originally charged in connection with a Jan. 17 drug seizure. Federal prosecutor Jay Straith said Bremner was caught selling three grams of marijuana io another man for $40. Bremner also pleaded guilty to failing to attend court on June 28 for his preliminary hearing and was sentenced to a 14-day jail term to be served concurrently with the other sentence. In addition to his jail sentences and three months’ probation, Bremner was ordered to repay the crown $1,000 for bail that he had forfeited when he missed the preliminary hearing.
