24 ~ Wednesday, July 27, 1988 - North Shore News Chemistry studies in SIMON FRASER University chemistry student Patricia Wrean has become the first Canadian chosen by the American Chemical Society to spend her summer studying nuclear chemistry in San Jose, Calif. The 21-year-old third-year stu- dent, from West Vancouver, is one of 14 students spending six weeks at San Jose State University atten- ding a summer school in nuclear chemistry. Students will tackle such sub- jects as radiation safety and nu- student Caltfornia clear theory. Wrean is a chemical physics ma- jor with broad interests in the field. She has studied nuclear science at SFU and hopes to trans- fer her credits from San Jose back to Burnaby Mountain. Besides instruction, the summer school also assists students in fin- ~ding summer employment in na- tional nuclear laboratories and research centres the following year. The school is sponsored by the ACS's division of nuclear chemis- try and technology.
