Classes have evolved from regi- mented jumping jacks to a fine form of choreographed, complex moves. According to the West Van Rec Centre, one style this year is jazzier but easier to follow thaa before. The new Funk Classes. — also - called Super Funk, Funkout or Power Funk, are ‘the: rage and everyone can do them. The move- - ment is stylized, loose and funky. Your own flair is accepted and admired. The movements have an updated thythm and electric energy that in- spire even 10-year fitness veterans. Fitness conferences such as the reputed 1.D.E.A. (International Dance Exercise Association) con- ference, which caters to 5,000 del-, egates, introduce instructors to new fitness funk choreography while emphasizing simplicity and “transitions” (fitness lingo for easy ‘‘followability’’). Funk classes are being taught on Adult badminton THIS FALL the West Vancouver Recreation Centre is again offering its popular adult badminton classes to the public. Badminton provides the perfect opportunity .to meet interesting new people, get some exercise in a comfortable atmosphere, and develop athletic skills. : The recreation centre has classes that cater to all levels of player, whether players are just starting, have played for a while, or are at |, . an advanced level of play. Qualified instructors provide a mixture of skill work and recre- ational. play in each class, so everyone can have the opportunity to develop learned skills in a prac- tical atmosphere. Beginner classes run each Wednesday from 10:15 am. to 12. noon, . Intermediate classes on Mondays from 1:15 to 3 p.m., and the Advanced group operates on Mondays from 10:15 a.m. to 12 noon.
