North Vancouver school
board trustees voted
themselves the maximum
pay hike allowed under a
recent amendment to the
School Act — but rejected
additional allowances for the
chairman and_ vice-
chairman.

The trustees’ annual in-
demnity will increase from
$2,000 to $4,000 — the first
increase since 1967. A legal
opinion is being sought to
determine the exact date the
new fee will come into effect
and the question of retro-
activity.

The School Act amend-
ment allows an extra $2,000
for the chairman and $1,000
for the vice-chairman. But
the trustees unanimously
agreed to a motion by Frank
Warburton that denies these
additional sums to Chairman

necessarily greater than that
of the other trustees.

It was noted, however,
that the decision can be
reversed at any time.
