Cat overpopulation needs to be controlled by owners Dear Editor: Re: Judy. Stone’s article entitled “Kitten Conundrum,” which ran in the April 20 News. [think it's shocking to see that a person is actually boasting that she has three pregnant cals waiting to give birth to (wo to seven cats each, adding to the existing overpopuli- tion problem. And . she says, this és only April. ' What damage will this behavior bestow upon us in another one- month period! “dt is 30 years now that 1 have been having 5 pregnant cats spayed before they give birth. When preg- nant cats are anesthetized before being spayed, the fetuses become anesthetized by virtue of being in the womb. This allows the unborn kitens also to feel no pain during the spay- ‘ing procedure. In the hundreds of pregnant cats that L have spayed, not ane mother cat died as a result of the proce- dure, | also know that al least | have saved thousands of kiltens from living on the North Shore ind elsewhere. ‘The cost of this bas always been coveres «> donations from knowl edgeable and curing people, The willingness of people to work together will, hopefully, ulti- mately make a dent in the overpop- ulation.
