Council
endorses
computer
overhaul

WEST VANCOUVER District
Council approved June 28 a $1.5
million project to install a new
computer system at West Van-
couver municipal hall.

Coun. Ron Wood said the cur-
rent system, which is about 10
years old, is obsolete.

“It is incredibly outdated and
slow,’’ agreed Mayor Mark Sager.

The municipality will convert to
an open system that will. allow
software programs to run on the
machines of different manufac-
turers,

Under the open system, finan-
cial needs will still be met by the
existing NISSI system, while the
office systems will use Word for
‘ Windows, E-mail and Excel.

Conversion to the open system
will begin in August and will be
completed in the fall.

Consultants’ and contingency
fecs to coordinate the computer
update are budgeted at about
$245,000.

According to West Vancouver
‘director of finance George Hor-
wood, financing of. the computer
conversion wili produce.no taxa-
tion increase for the - on-salary
operating budget.
