8 - Sunday, April 4, 1993 ~ North Shore News Coun. concerned area redevelopment ‘rushed’ A DISCUSSION paper detailing ideas for the redevelopment of the area around the Park Royal Hotel will be sent to West Vancouver advisory bodies for comment, despite misgivings expressed by Coun. Diana Hutchinson at West Vancouver District Council’s March 22 meeting. By Maureen Curis Contributing Writer The thick report on the propos- ed revitalization of the Park Royal Hotel neighborhood, which is along Clyde Avenue between the Capilano River and Taylor Way, heralds a new concept in. the redevelopment process. “The idea is to give all of the people concerned a chance to be involved in the planning pro- cess...to identify issues and con- cerns,’ said Mayor Mark Sager, But Hutchinson was taken aback, not only by that extent of the ideas that have come out of the planning process, but that there is no staff report and no request for rezoning or any actual develop- . ment proposal, DISTRICT COUNCIL Architect Robert Burgers, who has worked with other architects and consultants in formulating concepts for redevelopment, said that the idea is to reverse the usual situation, whereby the public is involved much fater in the process when it is often con- fronted with a fait accompli. “1 felt this project was too im- portant for the municipality .... to do all the work behind the scenes,’’ said Burgers. Responding to the concerns of resident Kurt Shephard, Coun. Rod Day said the purpose of the redevelopment is not to increase density, but to persuade the area fand owners to coordinate their revitalization efforts. “This report is basically saying that we've got to start somewhere; this should be a lightning rod to make things happen,"’ said Bob Heaslip, who represents Park Royal Shopping Centre's interests in the area, | We take pleasure tn inviting ya ts necetue One (1) Electronic Engine Analysis _- Includes: check plugs, points, condenser, P.C.V,, carb adjustment & carb idle.
