SeaBus
bike
ridership
rises

400%

THE NUMBER of people
taking their bicycles on the
SeaBus has increased
dramatically since the Van-
couver Regional Transit
Commission changed its
policy regarding bicycles on
the SeaBus.

A total of 12,717 bicycles were
carried on the SeaBus between
October 1990 and September 1991
— a 400% increase over the same
period in 1989-'90.

The commission expanded the
incentives for bike riders in Oc-
tober 1990 by approving increased
hours for passengers with bicycles.

Cyclists can use the ScaBus dur-
ing all off-peak hours and on
weekends and holidays.

On Dec. 1, 1990, cyclists were ~

exempted from having to pay an
additional one-zone fare that was
charged for taking their bicycles
on the SeaBus route between the
North Shore and downtown Van-
couver.

The change in ScaBus bicycle
policy was part of the transit
commission’s efforts to improve
accessibility and customer service.

Allowing people to carry their
bicycles for free on the SeaBus
also helps promote the region’s
Going Green campaign.
