Play checkers in the park YOU KNOW it’s spring when the checkers are put out at Waterfront Park for people to enjoy a game and the companionship of other checker enthusiasts. “Brown Baggers”’ from the of- fice buildings surrounding Water- front Park are invited to have a game of checkers, bask in the sun, School skippers raise $10,000 STUDENTS AT North Van- couver’s Sherwood Park Elemen- tary School recently skipped in class, as opposed to skipping class, and managed to raise $10,000 for the B.C. Heart Foundation. The school held a skip-a-thon, in which the local community pledged money towards the 360 students from Grades | to 8 who spent one hour skipping to raise funds. If any student raised between $20 and $30, that student also won a prize. The B.C. Heart Foundation has put together a skipping program for the Sherwood Park students, which has now become part of the school’s regular physical education program. This is the fourth consecutive year the school has heid the skip- a-thon. When n youve been doing business with friends e these on the North Shore during 15 consecutive years, you appreciate them.
