As of March 1989 there were 3,073 industrial users over 5,000 square feet in the Lower Mainland, occupying approximately 82,329,000 square feet. Vancouver’s industrial market accounts for 30 per cent of the total occupied square footage; the North Shore has a 5.8 per cent share. North Vancouver's vacan- cy rate increased slightly during the first quarter of 1989 due to the former Kodak building becoming vacant (52,000 square feet on Brooksbank Avenue). Leasing activity, however, has been strong for this site. 1.C.B.C. has purchased 1.7 acres of the former Kodak site and Sonatel Telecommunications has purchased a one-acre parce]. There is one acre remaining. The entire site has recently been rezoned to allow for 40 per cent office build-out. Stephen J. Cannell’s North Shore Studios, on Brooksbank Avenue, is nearing completion and will be ready for occupancy in September 1989.
