By TIMOTHY RENSHAW News Reporter The 29-year-old Liquor Distribution Branch employee originally raised the ire of West Vancouver provincial court per- sonnel when he insisted on paying for the ticket with a cheque written on a 15-pound brick. After that was refused, he returned to the West Vancouver courthouse with the certified card- board cheque. But again, his pay- ment was refused. So, Taylor went to court. On March 24, Justice of the Peace Larry Taylor handed Taylor a suspended sentence after hearing details of the case. Taylor was orginally given a ticket by West Vancouver Police Dec. 2, 1985 for having unauthorized lighting on his 1966 Mustang. In a Dec. 13 News story chronicling the incident, Taylor complained that police had been unreasonable in demanding he remove the lights on the roadside, instead of allowing him to drive home and remove them. He therefore decided to indulge in a bit of his own unreasonable behavior, and pay with the brick cheque, he said. Taylor said Tuesday, “If the police had been more understan- ding, no problem. If court staff had taken my cheque, which was a legal means of payment, nothing further would have happened. The whole thing could have been. avoided if she (superintendent of court administration for West Vancouver Mary Epps) hadn't been so stubborn.’’ Court services administrator for North and West Vancouver Dorothy Penman said Wednesday her staff in West Vancouver, like all court staff, had to face a lot of people who were unhappy with them for one reason or another. Said Taylor, ‘‘I tried to pay the fine and they refused. Now they get nothing.’’ 41985 Lonsdale Ave., N.
