By MARK IEAMILTON John Gordon Arnold, 36, will appear in North Van- couver provincial court Fri- day to face the attempted murder charge. He has been held in custody since he was formally charged December 27. The attempted murder of a police officer charge was laid the day after a tense, six-hour stand-off outside a Capilano Highlands home that began on the evening of Dec. 26. Police had responded to a woman’s complaints that her NORTH VAN son had become violent and, as they approached a Virginia Crescent home, a single shot was fired and the police car was sprayed with shotgun pellets. Neither po- liceman was at the scene was injured, Emergency response teams from North Vancouevr and Burnaby were called to the scene just after 10 p.m. Thursday and the area was sealed off, The stand-off continued throughout the evening and ended with the man sur- rendering to police just be- fore 4a.m. Friday, Dec. 27. Thieves target 2 pharmacies TWO NORTH Vancouver pharmacies were the targets of break and enter incidents carly Tuesday morning. According to police, a witness saw two males smash the windows of a Central Lonsdale pharmacy shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday. The males, who are reported to have taken a small amount of drugs, fled in a silver and black sedan with two other people. One of the males was described as iwbout six feet tall, wearing a blue jacket. Both appeared to be wearing masks. The second incideat oc- curred shortly after 5:30 am. at another pharmacy, however, police could not confirm whether anything was taken in the break-in, Investigations are continu- ing and police say they believe the (Wo incidents are related.
