Norwesters host open house NORWESTERS_ Track and Field Club 1983 Open House will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at Highlands Elementary School. This free event is intended for all ages, and will begin at 7 p.m. Representatives of the Club’s Junior Development Programme and co- ordinators of adult activities will be on hand from 7 until 8 p-m. to talk to interested members of the public. There will be a selection of sports films shown during the hour for the younger members of the family. Films and refreshments are free. At approximately 8 p.m. the feature film “Going the Distance” will be shown. their home countries. The film follows the competitors through to the excitement of the finals, the last push for gold and silver medals. A spokesman explained that this new approach to publicizing the Club’s ac- tivities is intended to im- prove the chances of the younger athletes. “Or- dinarily, interest in track and field peaks in the late spring. The Club’s coaches get a great volume of enquiries from parents after Spring Break, when results from our first track meets are publicized. We would prefer to get these newcomers started earlier in the year.” The Open House provides an opportunity for parents publicized at the House. Members in the Senior and Masters categories wear the Club colours in Cross-country and Road Racing events in Winter and Spring. The Club's Fun Run in Fall °83 will be an open event for the whole family. Coach Lila Griffith will be taking the Club's Junior Development athletes to their first meet of the season on April 16. Many ofthe 9 and 10 year old boys and girls, the youngest members, will be hearing a starter's pistol for the first time on Open that day. North Shore schools have active track programs, and Club members are encouraged to be active in both. The young athletes benefit from the A PAIR of 80 point plus games marked a big weekend for Cap College Blues men’s Basketball teams.
