IF you are a teen, chances are you’ve experienced discrimina- tion on many occasions. Every teen I’ve talked with has stories of going into stores ‘and being watched and some- _ times’ even followed. At the scene of the acci- dent I overheard a woman saying that there’s more acci- dents due to negligent tcens, such as my friend, and that he should not be allowed on the road. Even though she hadn’t wit- nessed the acci- ically put the fame on my friend, just because he was a teen,” complained Sarah Walter, a Grade 12 student. ght k Ic is not right for people to judge us all, based on few negative things done by other teens. The majority of the teens I know are passive, friendly le, who would help an eld derly lady across the strect, not beat her down. Yer we are all judged by our baggy clothes, the loud music we listen to, and that one teen who broke into the house down your block. It scems like people only sec the negative, and refuse to “ The majority of the teens I know are passive, friendly people, who would help an elderly lady across the street, not beat her down. ” acknowledge the good things youths do. If we were to judge every- one by these guidelines the roles would be reversed. The last time I looked, there were a lor more adults occupying the jail cells, than teens. Yes, we are different from the adults in the community. Our world is very different from the one they grew up in. We live in a world where doors are locked and bolted, fear and suspicion are every- where, anu the trust is gone. This is a new day and age and we are going to do things a little dif- ferently, act a lit- tle differently and dress a litte dif- ferently than past generations. In general though, we want the same things you do. Try to trust us a little. We are the future generation; you shouldn’t fight us.
