she relives a nightmarish sexual
assault,

“To this day. there isn‘t.a time when |
come back to North Van that I don’t think
of it. It's horrid.” she said. :

The 32-year-old woman cannot be
identified because of a court order.

She was sexually assaulted twice by a
co-worker while the two were on the job
working for the North Vancouver District
(NVD) parks department’ on June 29,
1992, :

The man, Michele Montecalvo, in his
50s, of North Vancouver, was found guilty :
of two counts of sexual assault on May 28,
1993, in B.C. Supreme Court. : ;

He was given a suspended sentence and ©
12 months’ probation. |

District manager Mel Palmer said
Montecalvo was suspended without pay

‘for two months shortly after the woman

reported the incidents.

“When it came to us, what you had was
one. person’s word against another’s,” said
Palmer. : : :

“We made a judgment call and: said,
yes, we felt something had occurred that
should not occur,” said Palmer.

Palmer called Montecalvo’s suspension
