THE JARVIS REPORT The new Employment: Standards Act passed by the NDP shows this government to be dangerously out of touch with economic reality. Recalling — the 1992 Labour Relations Cade. it shows again this governinent’s contempt for small business-the province's major job creators, , lastead of helping workers, this bill will lead lo greater unemployment. ‘Incteased minimum wage, full- time benetits for part-time work, training wages. and other regula- tions regarding hours, Jeaves and vacations are job-killers. They are incompatible with the Mexible, cus- tomer-driven market of the 1990's, The NDP’s Employment Standards Act is interventionist and misguid- ed. It handicaps good employers and does little to penalize poor employers. The result, will be a rat's nest of rules and paperwork for responsible employers, while rule-breakers yo further under- ground. The ultimate impact could be dev- astating,. sending more people through UIC, social assistance. and “re-entry training, Who will win? Only the bureaucrats. But. what else is new? If you're a small business owner or someone concerned about employ- ment, I'd tike to hear from you. The BC Liberal Party is ready to ‘get this province working again. am DANIEL JARVIS, MLA .
