A NORTH Shore Health (NSH) home-care nurse feared for her safety when she heard that the murderer of Dr. Verne Flather was not going to be locked up forever. By Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter “Susan came into my office in a flustered and harried state, holding the (North Shore News) newspaper account,” testified NSH medical health officer Dr. Brian O’Connor. | “She was concemed for her per- sonal safety because Henderson was not put away for life.” he added. O'Connor testified on Nov. 21, the fifth day of a coroner's inquest investigating the April 22, 1992, . shooting death of Flather. ; According: 40 NSH reports: in. 1988, Flather's murderer became home-care nurse Susan Holtom’s client when: ‘“(Henderson) yelled at Norma (a home-care “nurse), Susan ‘took him on as a challenge." Holtom is out of the country and will not testify at the inquest. Her supervisor, Jeanette Cahill, is now deceased, Henderson received home-care nursing after back surgery. _ O'Connor testified that Cahill told him that Henderson was dis- playing aggressive and abusive behavior toward his home-care nurse... “The first thing | did was contact Mr. Henderson,” said O'Connor. _... The NSH head said that he was not aware of Holtom’s experiences __ with Henderson, which included: _ €3 his revelation to her of a “hit list”; Ba threat of the nurse with a knife; and : “(Ba claim by Henderson that he had - his rifle, trained outside his apart- ‘gnent window at 616 Lonsdale Ave. "to shoot people in the park. O'Connor said Henderson was going to call the Ministry of Health, O'Connor then contacted Henderson's doctor, Brent Brown. “He (Brown) indicated that Mr. Henderson was someone very well known to him and 4 source of frus- tration to him and his colleagues. * “He just expressed exaspera- tion... It was almost as though this story ‘was :the: last straw,” said O'Connor. ; Brown had ‘carlier testified that he sent a letter to Henderson stating the man was no longer his patient in December 1988. Brown had treated Henderson for seven months. The general practitioner termi- nated his service after hearing that Henderson thought Brown and the back surgeon were “utterly incom- ATTENTION An error appeared in the “Dial-a- Movie'l Sadveriisement in the Sunday Novembert §27th edition of the North Shore News. According to Holtman's notes entered on Dec. 1, 1988, she described Henderson as a “very angry, frustrated and perhaps delu- sionary person... suggest we deal with him passively...” She also refers to getting “a han- die on his emotional stability.” On Dee, 8, 1988, she wrote in her = heme-care report that Henderson “gave me concern for iny safety...
