The delay-plagued develop- ment, a project of the North Shore’s Viam Group/De Cotiis - family, includes suites that are nicely appointed but, | thought, a tittle on the small side; when tour- ing the display suites with West .Vancouver mayor Mark Sager, 1 could almost hear the sound of newly claustrophobic retirees beaning each other with lamps and frying pans. .. in case you’re wondering, Mayor Sager assures me that there will be space for a new approach to the new First Narrows crossing — when, not if, we get one. if there’s plenty of new con- struction to come, it won't make commuters or WestRoyal residents happy, but I'm sure it'll give Sen- tine! Hill homeowners (the ones - who usedto have views) a great deal of satisfaction. kkx* _ Across the street, as everyone has noticed, the ‘‘revitalization’’ of Park Royal Shopping Centre ’ continues, creating an eye-sore rivaled only by the Capilano Driv- ing Range. ° Vancouver Magazine beat me to this little proclamation, but not only is Park Royal the messiest - development around, it has the Lower Mainland’s worst-ever slogan. _. “Park Royal — Becoming More Like You Every Day.” What if a passerby is perverted? Dishonest? Broke? An idiot? Nuts? What if he has bad taste? Bad manners? Bad hygiene? Either this is an ad exec’s worst nightmare — i.e. the client insisted on writing his own slogan — or _ someone needs to go back to cepy-writing school. Louise Aird BRIGHT LIGHTS But never mind, I’m assured that the finished product will be spec- tacular — and that it’!! be finished in time for Christmas. kkk The last major golf tournament of the year was a big success. The 5th Annual Century Plaza Ladies of the Media Goff Tournament was held at Richmond's Green Acres golf course and was hosted by West Van‘s Wendy Lisogar (the Century Piaza’s GM/owner), who founded the tournament after discovering that al! of the tourna- ‘ments in town were for men. Participants took home tons of prizes from a raft of sponsors and the day pulled in $58,000 for the Zajac Foundation, with all of the money earmarked for the almosi- completed Chiidren’s Neurological Treatment Centre. \ didn’t golf, but i’m told | could have; there were no pros among the 150 golfers and competition wasn't the point anyway — fun was. Auctioneers included CKNW’s Neil Macrae, J.P. McConnell and Rick Honey (who says he’s sick of being mentioned in the North Shore News — tough), our own sportsman Greg Douglas (who, for some reason, kept calling me “Dean’') and the CBC’s newest North Shoreite Kevin Evans. Kike Redondo’s new Kypriaki South will be located in Los Cabos — § don’t think there is a Los Canos in Mexico (and if there is, | don’t want to hear about it!). The Vancouver Art Gallery hosted 900, not 200, at the Jack Shadbolt opening and Ashling Defahunt is a realtor, not a retailer. kkk This week's award for ‘Most Inept Public Relations’ (as well as goofiest invitation) goes to the or- ganizers of the fundraiser for MP Kim Campbell’s campaign. In order to cover the event, the North Shore News, | was told, would have to buy tickets. I'm sure that our MP Mary Collins wouldn’t appreciate this assump- tion that there are so few PC sup- porters on the North Shore that its paper dcesn’t warrant media Passes. This fits in nicely with my theory (half-baked, of course, but also ev- idenced by the all-night sailing debacle at Horseshoe Bay) that we're being punished for our sup- port of the Liberals in the last pro- vincial election.
