Building permits needed for structural changes

WHAT KIND of building requires
a building permit?

In most municipalities, all new
construction and any remodelling
of existing premises beyond basic
maintenance requires a building
permit. You can paint your house
or landscape your yard. but if any
structural, electrical, plumbing,
gas or similar changes are going to
be undertaken, a permit must be
obtained.

How da vou get a building
permit?

To qualify for a building permit
the design of your project: must
conform to all local municipal
zoning ordinances and to. either
the B.C. Building Code or the
local building by-law.

The plans and specifications
that you submit must clearly il-
lustrate to the plan-checking
authorities that the design con-
forms to regulations in every par-
ticular.
