WV Council buys
heritage house

THE OLDEST house in West

Vancouver has been purchased by

the municipality for $1 million.

Lloyd and Betty Williams, the
owners of the 1768 Argyle Ave.
property, will receive $775,000 in
cash for the home.

The remaining $225,000 will be
held back in consideration of a
life tenancy for the Williamses,
who will be provided with a fur-
ther cash payment when they die
or at a date of their choosing.

Ald. Pat Boname, who passed the
motion to purchase the property.
“It’s a great day."*

Boname said the Williams’s
home was the first one listed in
the West Vancouver Heritage In-
ventory.

The home was built in 1873 by
local entrepreneur John Thomp-
son, who was also known as Nav-
vy Jack.

It was later purchased by the
