growth. Forecasted lower
mortgage interest rates in the
second half will further
stimulate demand for new
units.

The median price of a new
single cetached unit in the
metropolitan area is forecast
to reach $194,000 ii 1989,
up 20 per cent from last
year. Piices will rise more
rapidly in areas nearer to the
centre of the metropolitan
area than in more suburban
locations.

In the city of Vancouver,

the median new house price
for singles will increase to
$350,000, up 30 per cent
from $275,000 in 1988.
Langiey’s median new single
detached house price is
forecast to reach $133,C00,
up 12 per cent over last year.

The median prices for new
condominiums are expected
to increase at much more
moderate rates. For the met-
ropolitan area, the median
price for a new two bedroom
apartment condominium will
be $140,000 in 1989, up nine
per cent over 1988. Row
condominium units are pro-
jected to increase by 14 per
cent, from $125,000 in 1988
to $144,600 in 1989.
