NORTH VANCOUVER triathlete
Sharon Keogh is on her way to
Amakusa, Japan, today as one of
a handful of international com-
petitors invited to compete in the
Japan Triathlon Series this
weekend.

Training mostly as a cyclist over
the last two years, Keogh, 22, was
a serious triathlon competitor from
1981 to 1986 before giving up the
running and swimming portions of
that event.

“Wd like to win it if | can,’” said
Keogh, who competes on the Fred
Deeley/Kuwahara/Suntour team
along with fellow North Vuan-
couverite Judy Latoski.

“It just depends on the number

to gain ground in cycling, but will
likely fail back when she takes to

“T used to be a runner for a
track club, so 1 should fare well on
that," she said. “Swimming will
definitely be my weak point.”’
