FUND-RAISING EVENT Bachelors auctioned off ABOUT 1,200 women are expected to pack the Hyatt Regency Hotel ballroom Aug. 25 as 30 eligible bachelors are auctioned off to aid the Lions Gate Medical Research Foundation. Among the bachelors up for grabs to successful bidders are athletes, firemen, doctors, lawyers and businessmen, all of whom come complete with a fun-filled date package of activities. ‘“"We have some excellent packages — one of them is a weekend in London with one of our doctors,’’ said research foun- dation executive vice-president Valerie Young. “Another is called Wine and Roses — (including) a $1,500 shopping spree at Finn's of Ker- risdale, a weekend in San Fran- sisco, a trip to wine country and more. ‘And you should see the bachelor who goes with this one.’’ One bachelor is former CFL player Tyrone Crews, a 6°2" athlete whose date package in- cludes red roses, dinner and champagne at the Bayshore Inn followed by a limousine tour of Vancouver's hottest nightspots. Tickets to the auction are $30 or $60, with the $60 ticket allowing potential bidders a premium table and the opportunity to attend a champagne preview with the bachelors in attendance. Minimum auction bid is $100, but organizers expect) many packages to go much higher than that, and hope to bring in $75,000 for the charity.
