Although some concern has been shown regarding censorship in the arca of pornography, there seems to be little reference to the fact that many books of an historical and political nature are being denied entry. of banned books is from your reveals this A. list available on request MP's office, which fact. Customs officials are assuming authority traditionally reserved for the courts by deeming certain Pioneer information sought Dear Editor: I would like some information with regards to the pioneer families of North Vancouver. Do you know of anycne who is gathering information for a book on the pioneer families of North Vancouver, Lynn Valley areas? 1 have the book by Walter Drayectt (Early Days in Lynn Valley) but he mised many of the working families. Many of the smaller towns in the prairie provinces have these books, and I was wondering why there is no book on North Vancouver, My parents’ families were both made up of pioneers — the Dyer family of Lynn Valley and the Wotton family of North Van- couver, Can you help me with this? Frank Dyer Cultus Lake Who to blame for dumping? Dear Editor: When one rides the busses, as many visitors will, one can see that much dumping has been going on under the north end of the Lions -~- Gate Bridge. - cee eee This is disgusting and ‘dis- quieting to see. Who is to blame? Mrs. J. Kennon North Vancouver WEWS carrier gets bouquet Dear Editor: We'd like to recogttize the good service we receive from our News carrier these days. He or she always leaves the paper in a dry place, and it comes at a regular time. It’s usually in the mailbox paper rack. We take three daily papers, and your carrier is better than any of theirs. Why are Canadians being denied the freedom to read certain mate- rial? Are specific historical facts being deliberately kept from us? Are we to lose a basic freedom? Write your MP and request an explanation for this authoritarian action on the part of our federal government. L. Adlington Calgary ‘ ‘“ndsor Dear Editor: Iam writing to protest: Doug Collin's column of Feb, 19. TF feel insulted about his remarks, and t feel angry that you allow them. And | regret that the paper is distributed to all of the North Shore. In this particular column, Col- lins makes sarcastic remarks about Indian) bloodline, non-caxation, drinking habits, religion and land claims. His writing cames across as en- vious, jealous, angry and demented. He has one hell of a gripe about indians. What did we ever do to him, to make him feel this way? Why is he forever at- tacking Indians? Collins can only relate to his past war times: in this article he calls himself General. Is it his in- tent to start a war between whites and Indians? Whether Doug Collins continues to write his bias column or not; we Indians will continue to be proud of our ancestry and fight for our rights. My main concern is that we live within a community, and | don’t want my neighbors to be influenc- ed by Collins comments. Linda Daniels Squamish Band Member North Vancouver The majority opposes legal abortion Dear Editor: I read the article on the Pro- Lions Gate Hospital organization with great interest, { think it is laudable that we prevent minorities interested in on- ly one issue from controlling our hospital board. r I guarantee that the crucial pre- requisite for membership in the **broad-issue’’ group is support for Lions Gate Hospital’s present abortion policy. I can further assure you that abortion-on-demand, as being ywood practised at LGH, is rejected by the vast majority of North Van- couverites and Canadians (76 per cent according to a 1983 Gallup Poll.)
