woe 3 ’ *, 11 - Friday, May 16, 1985 - North Shore News ‘Tattle tape stops book thieves A BOOK THEFT detection system for North Vancouver District Public Library's Capilano Branch Expansion was given the okay by North Vancouver District Council at a meeting April 29. The money is available through a contingency fund set aside for just such purposes. The ‘‘Tattle Tape’’ system will sound an alarm if pro- tected material is taken through the exit without be- ing properly processed. The library feels that, as a means to control theft, the system will reduce the costs of book replacements. Construction on the ex- pansion began in January and is expected to be com- pleted by August for an Oc- tober opening. Peter Smith, chairman of the Library Board Building Committee, sayS construction is about a week ahead of schedule and the project is within budget. ~ The library will cover two floors and will be about three times larger than the old one, In keepirg with the Edgemont Village Revitalisation, there will be a new entrance on Highland Boulevard. New features inside the building include a closed-in reference room, a meeting room with separate entrance, a separate Children’s Department, complete with roof garden and roomy browsing areas for maga- zines, newspapers, records, paperbacks and lots of books.
