B8 - Wednesday, March 30, 1983 - North Shore News THREE DAY EVENT DRAWS 19 TEAMS North Shore takes two B.C. ringette titles By LUANNE GRIFFIN The 1983 ringette season on the North Shore came to an exciting finish this week- end with the 8th annual provincial “A” Cham- pionship Tournament. Nineteen teams from the North Shore, Port Coquitlam, Langley and Aldergrove participated in the four divisions, Petites (under 10), Tweens (11-12), Jr. Belles (13-14), and Belles, (15-17). The three day event, hosted by the North ,Shore Winter Club consisted of a series of round robins with the two top teams in each division competing in the final games Sunday evening. The first final saw the NSWC Petites and Langley Petites meet in a match that see-sawed back and forth until, with 36 seconds left in the game, NSWC’s Christine Campbell scored the 3rd goal of her hat trick to put her team ahead 6-5 and win the MVP award. Kim Mclean scored 2 and Laurie MacKenzie scored a single. scored 1, In Tween action, Poco squeaked by Aldergrove 5-4 in another close game. The Jr. Belle final saw the NSWC team, meet N.W. Van's Optimist Garfield’s Pussycats in a game that had the screaming fans “hanging on the ropes” from begin- ning to end. At the end of the first period, NSWC was ahead 2-f, bu the Pussycats came back in the second period, scoring 4 goals to NSWC’'s 1, giving the Pussycats the win at 5-3. For NSWC, Lisa MacCallum and Michelle NS coach ‘recognized’ Eight Canadian swim clubs will share $88,000 from the Labatt’s Olympic Coaches Recognition Pro- gram. , Cheques for $114,000 each will be presented to the head coaches of the clubs, which qualified for the payments because of the success their swimmers have achieved in top level national and inter- national competition.
