CANADA'S
HOMEBUYERS are older
and more experienced this
year, according to a study
released recently by Royal
LePage.

The Royal LePage

~ Homebuyer Survey analyzed
the demographics of thou-
sands of Canadians during
the first nine monihs of
1993. It found thai buyers
over the age of 40 now ac-
count for 41% of all sales,
. up from 39% in 1992,

In fact, nine of the 1
markets surveyed found that
this scgment of the market
experienced. an increase this
year,

“As the front-end of the
baby-boom generation
marches ahead, we're start-
ing to see the impact of
their large proportions on
the resale marketplace,”
said Bernie Vogt, senior vice
president and general man-
ager, residential. “We can
expect to see more activity
in coming years as the
boomers move through
mid-life.”

The survey also reveals
that more experienced
buyers are entering the
housing market.

from the 1992 level of 37%.
In contrast, the percentage
of first-time buyers has
dropped from 37% to 36%.

Royal LePage Homebuyer
Survey:
@ Single women in Van-
couver are gaining momen-
tum, now representing
57.8% of all single buyers.
@ Condominiums continue
to be a popular choice in
Vancouver, where they now
account for 45% of all sales
activity. Condominiums arc
also a factor in Edmonton
(24%), Toronto (22%), and
Ottawa (21%).
