Meanwhile North — Vancouver District Mayor Don Bell said the municipality believes it is a school dis- trict’s responsibility to pay for crossing guards. He said pubiic schools historically managed and paid for crossing guards. A change to the School Act removed that responsibility. Bell, a former school trustee, said some principals have “not embraced” the student crossing guard program in North Vancouver. School District chairman Doug MacKay-Duun said school officials con- sidered placing the Upper Lynn student crossing guards at the crosswalk for Lynn Valley elementary. That plan has since been dropped. MacKay-Dunn wants a coordinator to oversee the student crossing guard program. “This is clearly a community safety issue. We have to move on it and move on it tomorrow,” he said. He said solving the crossing guard problem with the municipalities and school district has been akin to “push- ing water up hill.” Sport-Chek, Park Royal in wrangle over jease give his name, refused to comment. vs . “It’s between head ‘office | Wednesday.
